Passing lane only applies to controlled access highways as far as I’m concerned. On normal roads it’s just the left lane & the right lane.

1) How maniac-y are we talking here? (Impala) I can’t say I’m totally innocent here, but I’ve also been on the other end. And I can’t for the life of me figure out what the guy’s problem is.

2) I wouldn’t wait behind that rental car if I could possibly avoid it. Just asking to become the meat in the sandwich. Not getting after you, you had traffic coming in the other lane... just a generalization.

3) ARRRRRGH THESE PEOPLE WHO CAN’T MAKE IT ALL THE WAY INTO THE TURN LANE

4) Passed on the right by a prius... you’d think that’d be enough of a hint

5) Jaywalking in itself is a “you don’t bother me I don’t bother you” situation... in that you LOOK before you cross and RUN LIKE HELL. I don’t care that there was nobody coming when you checked, someone can come out of a driveway, turn onto the street, may have been blocked from your view etc. Don’t hang about in the road. And sorry to sound cold here, but if you can’t figure that out... I frankly don’t give a shit. I’ll feel sorry for your family, not for you.

6) (Confession) I made a serious stupid this weekend. Followed closely by another. 2-freaking-red-lights-in-a-row. Didn’t even notice either until I was there. Never, EVER, gone through a red in my life, and then TWO. Luckily they had both only just changed... strangely enough, the feeling afterwards is a mix of “whew” and “I deserved to get hit just now”. Tip to anyone who happens to read this: [The following is not an excuse, just a series of facts] Avoid the smallest of mistakes. I went out the same driveway I had come in off the main road from, without realizing it was 1-way until I got into it and found I was blocking the whole driveway. Therefore I was in a hurry to get out of the way as fast as possible, and at the first gap from the one direction I got the hammer down to merge with the traffic from the other direction. Between getting into traffic while watching my mirror to make sure I was safe and trying to take directions from passengers (we needed to turn) I blew straight through the red. And in the “oh shit” moment I blew the second. This entire sequence could have been avoided by just taking an extra 5 seconds to read signs.

Don’t know about where you are, but here the left lane is always supposed to be kept clear if possible regardless of what the road is. A 4-lane road will have 1 driving lane, 1 passing, a 6-lane road 2 driving 1 passing etc.

Of course that never happens, but it’s a nice thought...

1. He was swerving between cars/lanes enough that there was visible body roll. Also, the occupants all looked like they were joyriding, so I wasn’t concerned about there being an “actual emergency”.

2. Yeah in hindsight I should’ve gone around if possible.

Either way it’s always a BAD idea to aggravate angry people. You don’t know how he’ll react, and the likelihood he’ll calm down after your episode is marginal. The next completely innocent “offending” person or even just a bystander in this guy’s path may end up getting hurt when he does something rash to avoid getting stuck behind another asshole like you.

The first day I ran my dash cam, like two days ago, I saw someone on the feeder for the interstate turn into the curb, then they kept going and 20 feet later turned into the place they meant to go in.

Unfortunately they were to far away for the dash cam to pick it up well.
